Flying J Travel Center - Altoona

Bathrooms were nice for once. 1 star for everything else. Like taking advantage of drivers, not having decent food at night, creating reserved parking spaces but making them a couple feet shorter than a the normal length of a tractor trailer combinationvehicle. Lack of healthy food. Pricing things so high that they could make a decent profit even if they bought the stuff at aliquor store. Being understaffed. Not having appropriate safety devices for their construction. Lack of customer service. Youknow, all those things that you will experience at the majority of their locations. But why should they care when it doesn'taffect their profits, right?

Plenty of parking yet some folks park where they want as normal overnight. No hot food here and it's your typical pizza, chicken wings/tenders, corn dogs and such to eat. Cinnabon is inside but there's a Burger King across the street and a Mexicanrestaurant down the road. Fuel island building is closed so you have to go to the main building for your receipt. Showers andlaundry were extremely clean. I'll still choose to stay here whenever I'm out this way, but I wish they'd bring back fresh mealsonce again.

First off, let go of any preconceived notions about Flying J and Pilot. This location stands out as a flagship store. Don and his team maintain a very clean establishment, filled with merchandise, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. The showers here are among the most spacious I have ever seen, far surpassing those in other well-known chains like TA and Petro. I used Shower #5, which had two showerheads—there’s plenty of room, so you won’t find yourself bumping into the walls while showering. They are just incredibly large showers. I believe if Don could find someone to take over the vacant restaurant space, this place would become an absolute must-visit for me. (Haha, I told you I would leave a review!) I visited the restaurant around 6:15 PM on December 2, 2022, and I must say, the employee working in the fresh area was outstanding. He was quick, even ringing up all my items and retrieving everything I requested from behind the counter. I’ve never experienced such high-level service at a truck stop before. Additionally, the bathrooms were in excellent condition. Overall, these are some of the best employees I’ve encountered at any truck stop!
